Palace Oranienstein in Diez
Palace Oranienstein is truly a masterpiece of the baroque.
Historical details:
The princess Albertine Agnes von Nassau-Diez-Oranien built the five-winged facility from 1671 to 1684. Walls from the former Benedictine monastery Dierstein were used for the construction.
After her death the daughter-in-law Henriette Amalie von Anhalt-Dessau rebuild the palace in the baroque style from 1696 to 1709. By plans of the architect Daniel Marot stucco ceilings by Eugenio Castelli and Antonio Genone were created and by the Dutch artist Jan van Dyck painted with frescos. In the entrance hall one can find the family tree of the house Oranien-Nassau that shows the special relationship of the Diezer to the Netherlands.
The so-called Marshall-room and the bleu-golden hall are decorated with impressive copperplate engraving portraits and paintings. The palace chapel houses the coat of arms of the house Oranien and the ceiling impresses through the ceiling painting 'Pfingstwunder' (Whit sun wonder).
